Photographer and visual communicator Bijoy Chowdhury is a graduate of the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. He is a committed and an obsessive photographer specialising in documentary photography.

He has won both national and international recognition. He has been honoured twice with the Commonwealth Photography Award. He has also received the National Geographic Traveler Photo Award in recognition of his lensmanship. This is aptly reflected in the words of Mr Keith Bellows, the Editor-in-Chief of the National Geographic Traveler magazine. He wrote: ''This award we consider confirms your sharp shooting ability to capture the spirit of a place in classic National Geographic Traveler style''. International Photography Magazine 'PRIVATE' has also published his portfolio on the theme 'Other side of India'.

He has held three solo exhibitions at NCPA's Piramal Gallery, Mumbai and IIC in Delhi. He was also a participant in the group exhibition commemorating the India-Japan Friendship Year 2007, held in Tokyo, Japan.  Another exhibition was held at Pingyao International Photography Festival in China in the year 2007.

He is one of the participants and his works will be exhibited along with other participants of Pakistan, Bangladesh and India at the Whitechapel Gallery, London, in January 2010.  This show has been curated by Mr. Sunil Gupta.

He continues to work on several photo projects of socio-economic interest. He has also received a Fellowship in Photography from the Indian Government.
